Cheap Chauffeur Hire: How to Keep the Cost Down

The cheapest way to hire a chauffeur without losing quality is to match the car and booking type to the job: choose the smallest suitable car, book one-way rather than hourly when the car does not need to wait, share one larger vehicle instead of several saloons, and book early. Very low prices usually mean something has been removed, such as proper insurance or a licensed driver, so the aim is a fair price for a legal, reliable service rather than the lowest number on the page.

What you are paying for

A chauffeur price covers the car, the chauffeur's time, fuel and running costs, hire and reward insurance and licensing. Some of those are fixed whatever the journey. That is why a chauffeur costs more than a basic taxi, and why the savings come from how the booking is structured rather than from haggling.

Six ways to lower the price

Each of these changes what we need to reserve for you.

Corners you should not cut

Never book a driver who is not licensed for private hire, or a car that is not insured for hire and reward. If something goes wrong, an uninsured journey can leave passengers without cover. Ask any operator which council licenses them and whether their drivers are DBS checked. Ours are licensed, insured and DBS checked.

Fixed quotes help you budget

A fixed price agreed before travel means traffic and diversions do not change the bill. Compare like with like: one quote may include waiting at the destination or a return journey that another leaves out. Our guide to what is included in a chauffeur price shows what to check.

Is a chauffeur ever cheaper than the alternatives?

Sometimes. For a family flying from a London airport, the cost of parking for a fortnight plus fuel can come close to a chauffeured return transfer, and for a group the cost per person drops quickly. Our airport parking versus chauffeur guide works through that comparison. For short solo trips, a taxi will usually be cheaper, and we will say so.

Getting a quote

Send the journey details and we reply with a fixed price, usually within the hour. If a cheaper car or booking type would do the job, we will suggest it.

Comparing quotes fairly

When you compare chauffeur quotes, check they describe the same service. Look at the vehicle named in the quote, not just the category, because 'executive saloon' can mean very different cars. Confirm whether the price includes the journey to your pickup, any waiting at the destination and the return leg. Ask whether airport parking or drop-off charges are included. Check the cancellation terms, since a cheap quote with a strict cancellation policy may cost more if your plans change. Make sure the operator is licensed and the car insured for hire and reward, and that you will be dealing with the company itself rather than an agent who passes the job on. Once you are comparing like with like, the difference between quotes is often smaller than it first appears, and the one that includes everything is usually the better value.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest car you offer?

For most solo or couple transfers the Audi A6 or Mercedes S-Class is the practical choice. Ask for a quote on both if price matters.

Is hourly hire more expensive?

It reserves the car and chauffeur for longer, so it usually costs more than a one-way transfer. It is worth it when the car needs to wait.

Do you publish prices?

No. Every journey is quoted individually as a fixed price before travel.

Are budget chauffeurs safe?

Only if they are properly licensed and insured. Always check before booking.
