Chauffeur-Driven Car Hire: How It Works

Chauffeur-driven car hire is a booking where the car and a licensed, insured driver come together: you never sign a rental agreement, collect keys or look for parking, because someone else drives and stays responsible for the vehicle throughout. You tell us where you need to be and when, we quote a fixed price before travel, and the car arrives at your door. It is the answer to searches for a rental car with a chauffeur or a car with a driver, and this guide explains how the arrangement works in practice.

How it differs from renting a car

With ordinary car rental you are the driver. You carry the insurance excess, fuel the car, find somewhere to leave it and return it on time. Hiring a car with a chauffeur removes all of that. The operator owns and insures the vehicle for hire and reward, the chauffeur holds a private hire licence, and your only job is to be ready at the agreed time.

The trade-off is that you are paying for a person as well as a car, so it is rarely the cheapest way to cover a long distance on your own. It becomes the sensible choice when your time in the car is worth something: when you want to work, rest, have a drink at an event, travel with guests, or simply not drive somewhere unfamiliar.

The two ways to book it

Most enquiries fall into one of two shapes, and knowing which you need makes the quote quicker.

Choosing the car

Our fleet is small and every car is chauffeur driven. The Mercedes S-Class is the usual executive choice, with a quiet rear cabin for calls or rest. The Audi A6 is understated when you would rather arrive without attention. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is for occasions where the car is part of the day. The Mercedes V-Class keeps a group and its luggage together in one vehicle.

What the price covers

Every booking is quoted in advance as a fixed price for the journey or the hours agreed, so traffic on the day does not change what you pay. Before you accept, check the quote against the plan: the pick-up time, any stops, whether the car waits, and when the booking ends. If the plan changes, tell us early and we will confirm any difference before it applies.

Who is behind the wheel

Our chauffeurs are licensed, insured and DBS checked, and they dress and behave as part of a professional service: doors opened, luggage handled and conversations kept private. The same chauffeur normally stays with you for the whole booking, which matters on a long day because they learn your timings and preferences as it goes.

When it is worth it

Chauffeur-driven hire makes most sense for airport runs with luggage, business days with several meetings, evenings out where nobody wants to drive home, visiting family or clients, and days out where parking would eat into the time you have. For a short solo hop with no deadline a taxi is usually better value, and we will tell you so if you ask.

What to send with your enquiry

The date, pick-up and drop-off addresses, the number of passengers and bags, and whether you need the car to wait. For airport collections the flight number is more useful than a landing time. We run 24 hours, so early flights and late finishes are both fine to ask about.

Frequently asked questions

Is chauffeur-driven hire the same as a rental car?

No. You never drive or hold the insurance. The car arrives with a licensed chauffeur who stays responsible for it throughout the booking.

Can I hire a chauffeur for my own car instead?

Yes. That is our chauffeur-only service, with the insurance position confirmed in writing before the day.

Is the price fixed?

Yes. You receive a fixed quote before travel for the journey or the hours agreed, and any change to the plan is confirmed with you first.

Will the car wait while I am inside?

On an hourly or day booking, yes. On a point-to-point booking the car leaves after the drop-off unless a return is booked.
