Private Chauffeur Hire: How It Works
Private chauffeur hire means a car and a professional driver reserved for you and your party alone, for a single journey or for a set number of hours. Nobody else shares the car, the route is planned around you, and the price is agreed before you travel. It is the right choice when you want certainty: the same chauffeur from start to finish, a car you have chosen, and a plan that bends when your day changes.
What 'private' actually means
Shared shuttles and pooled rides pick up other passengers along the way. A private chauffeur does not. The car comes to your address, takes the route that suits you and waits for you, not for anyone else. That matters for privacy on business calls, for families with luggage, and for anyone who simply wants the journey to be predictable.
Two ways to book
One-way, or point to point, is best when you need to be taken somewhere and do not need the car afterwards: a station, an airport, a hotel. Hourly or day hire keeps the chauffeur with you, which suits days with several stops, events where you do not know exactly when you will leave, or evenings out. Our guide on hourly hire versus point to point compares the two in detail.
What is included
Every private booking with us comes with the same basics.
- Exclusive use of the car for your booking.
- A licensed, insured and DBS checked chauffeur.
- Door-to-door service with help carrying luggage.
- Flight tracking for airport collections.
- A fixed price agreed before travel.
- A direct contact on the day if your plans change.
Choosing the car
For one to four passengers most clients choose the Mercedes S500 long wheelbase. The Audi A6 suits travellers who prefer something discreet. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is for occasions. Families and groups of up to seven passengers travel together in the Mercedes V-Class, which also takes more luggage than a saloon. If you cannot decide, tell us how many people and bags there are and we will recommend one.
Private chauffeur or personal driver?
The phrases overlap. We use private chauffeur hire for bookings in our own cars, and personal driver hire for longer, open-ended days when a driver stays with you. If you want a driver for your own car, that is our chauffeur-only service. All three are chauffeur-driven; we do not rent cars for self-drive.
What to send
Your pickup address, destination or itinerary, date and times, number of passengers, luggage and a contact number. For airport collections include the flight number. We return a fixed quote, and once you confirm, the booking is set. We operate 24 hours, so early starts and late returns are no problem.
When a private chauffeur is worth it
Not every journey needs a chauffeur, and it is worth being honest about when the extra cost pays off. A private chauffeur makes most sense when timing matters and a missed connection would be expensive, such as an early flight or an important meeting. It also helps when you have luggage, children or passengers who find public transport difficult, or when you want to drink at an event and still get home comfortably. Days with several stops, where parking at each one would waste time, are another strong case, as is any journey where privacy matters because you need to make calls or talk freely in the car. For a short trip across town with nothing riding on it, a taxi may be perfectly adequate. When you enquire, describe the day and we will tell you if a simpler option would do.
